Day 2 at Fort William

Written by:

After waking up we head over to granny Kay’s for breakfast. We head to fort William we forgot to look out for a cool landslide. We then meet Elaine at Morrison’s and take a walk down High Street. Anyway we then try to go to Inverlochy castle which is pretty much a fancy hotel not what dad was expecting:( So we then go to Neptune’s staircase and no it’s not a staircase, it’s actually a canal but connects a high part of a canal to a low part with gates that act like stairs. When when we arrive there’s a sail boat going through and it’s going down the canal. Read the caption to see how it works.

So if you see the big pole that’s the boat ⛵ and see how its taller than the gate that means they have to they drain the water from the top until it’s even and if don’t the gate will break and it flood and it would be bad and just not good. So when that’s done they open the gate and rinse and repeat. look at the bottom for more pictures of it :).

We also see it go through swing bridge which is a bridge that swings out of the way. Then we got to see a much larger boat do the same but go up the stairs which is still pretty much the same but in reverse. We then go to the top and start count all the sections. We then stop for ice cream. Logan gets bubblegum flavour, Ben gets Scottish tablet flavour same with Jackie, Dad gets Banoffee and Mum gets biscotti.

look its Ben!!!!!!!!!

we then finish counting and the grand total is… 9!!!! yep nine sections we counted. we do a little shopping and head back to the village. We also see the landslide this time, that wiped out the high road for over a year.

here some photos 🙂

look it’s me in the metal box thing

It was good to see Jackie’s photo, we have not heard a lot about Jackie so far on your trip. The canal locks look interesting things. Did you have a try at opening and shutting the lock gates, they look very heavy? I have seen pictures of people pushing them open with huge wooden levers.

Is Scottish icecream the same as you get in NZ or does it taste different? The icecream flavours sound yummy.

It is exciting that you guys are there for Mark’s 20th birthday Are you going to have a party?

We love getting the photos and hearing all your news.

Jessie has just come up and pushed in for a cuddle and she is fine. I have not seen Nessie, but the cat food is being eaten so I guess she is fine too.

    Love Grandad and Nana.
