Ancient Oban day 8

Written by:

We wake up and head to granny Kay’s house. We pick up granny Kay and get on the road and we’re on the way to Oban. After a good while we arrive at Oban. We park at Tesco and begin walking. We go to the harbour bit and see the huge bulky ferry coming into shore. We start wandering closer to it.

the ferry docking

On the way we see tonnes of the seafood stall Mum And Dad are like yummy while the kids aka me Ben and Jackie are like yuck seafood well just me really. We see a cool miniature model of the ferry⛴️ and then Dad explains what the ferry does. We then go back and me and Ben go on the opposite side of the wall Jackie Soon joins in too. We then walk some more and we see a beached ship (it’s not fully beached it just has to wait until high tide to be used)and an insanely old inn like made in the 1700 old.

if you look at the top you can see how insanely old it is

Me Jackie and mum go inside. Inside we see mugs Hanging from the ceiling and we saw this thing that mum said was what people used to message the crew, even though they were in separate rooms. We then go somewhere that Dad and granny Kay both say that they think there used to be a fish and chips store where we were. We then go back to Tesco’s to do some shopping the main thing is that I got lollies and Frosties!. After the shopping spree we head to the big ring thing up on the hill. Mccaigs Tower though it is sometimes called Mccaigs Folley but not by locals. After being confused and going up an insanely narrow road, we make it. We park the car and begin climbing the seemingly endless staircase.  After ages aka 3 minutes we made it to the top and we saw it. It can best be described as a Colosseum made of stone sorta it doesn’t have seats it just the walls 🧱.

the front of it

Inside it there is a garden there’s a couple tree and some Bush’s there’s a seat in the middle too. There’s some cool window that we sit in. We then go to the viewpoint from it. You can see all of Oban from there and right across to the island of Mull. There is a sign that shows you some of the cool things you can see like monuments stuff like that. We go back down. Dad stops by a fishing shop while me and mum go to a fish and chips store with a sign that had Gordon Ramsey next to the chefs that work there. We eat them and head back to the village and miss a castle 😭 cause of mums directions.

Nana and Have been to Oban with your mum and dad. I remember the Folly up on the hill well. It seemed to us a dumb thing to build.

We did not see the ferry boat, where does it sail to?

Things in New Zealand are so new, in 1700 , Captain Cook had not even discovered NZ, he didn’t do that until 1769, the pub in Oban was already 69 years old!

Nana and I are really enjoying all your pictures and stories of where you have been and what you are doing, thank you for sending them.

    Love Grandad and Nana. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
